A ten-day northern Tanzania safari built around the seasonal movement of wildebeest rather than a fixed river-crossing promise. Spend several nights in the most suitable Serengeti area for your month and include other parks where they add genuine value.

Migration first: choose the location for the month

The Great Migration is a moving ecosystem, not a single event. Wildebeest respond to grass and rain, spreading between the southern plains, central and western Serengeti and the northern region. We choose the camp area based on your dates and realistic seasonal patterns. No operator can guarantee a river crossing or a calving event.

Day 1: Begin in Arusha and Tarangire

Depart Arusha for a first northern-circuit game drive, often in Tarangire when that fits the route. Explore river woodland and open areas before continuing to your booked accommodation. The first day should offer wildlife rather than too many transport stops.

Day 2: Highland scenery and onward planning

Travel through the Lake Manyara/Karatu area or visit another agreed northern park. The destination depends on the seasonal Serengeti location and how much of the ten days should be spent with migration herds.

Day 3: Enter the Serengeti ecosystem

Continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and into the selected Serengeti sector. Your guide explains recent herd movement and begins game viewing along the way. Overnight in the first confirmed Serengeti camp.

Day 4: Full day in the first Serengeti area

Spend a full day watching wildlife rather than travelling between faraway accommodations. Depending on the season, you might explore southern grasslands, central valleys or the northern zone. Sightings and roads determine the daily route.

Day 5: Migration-focused game drives

Use the day for patient wildlife viewing. Large herds may be spread over a wide area, and a river gathering does not necessarily result in a crossing. Your guide will balance time with herds against other productive sightings.

Day 6: Continue in the best seasonal zone

Stay in the same camp when conditions are productive or make a planned move to another Serengeti area when that genuinely improves the experience. Camp changes are decided with the season in mind, not inserted just to add variety.

Day 7: One more Serengeti wildlife day

Make use of your final full Serengeti day for photography, birds or resident predators in the chosen habitat. This additional day provides flexibility after rain or when herds move away from an expected location.

Day 8: Head toward Ngorongoro

Travel from Serengeti to the Ngorongoro highlands, allowing for stops, conservation formalities and the distances involved. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the lodge or camp named in your quotation.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater game drive

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for wildlife viewing under current park conditions. The enclosed landscape is very different from Serengeti’s vast plains. Afterwards, continue to the agreed overnight location.

Day 10: Return to Arusha or your onward departure

Finish the circuit with a road transfer to Arusha or the specified airport. Avoid tight connections when a long drive remains on the itinerary.

What the migration can look like in different seasons

Early-year trips often focus on Ndutu and surrounding southern plains for grazing and calving. Later in the year, parts of the western corridor or the north may be better, depending on rainfall and herd movement. The well-known river crossings are not a daily scheduled attraction.

Road safari versus bush flights

Road travel can make sense when the herds are in southern or central areas and guests want the full northern circuit. Flights can save considerable transfer time for some northern-season routes, but they cost more and must fit operating timetables.

How to choose accommodation

Ask which Serengeti region each camp serves, whether the camp is permanent or seasonal, and whether the quoted room and vehicle are private or shared. The booking should make clear why each night is located where it is.

What is included in the safari package

Safari transport, guiding, park charges, accommodation, meals and domestic flights only if detailed in the confirmed proposal.

The confirmed proposal identifies each paid-for service separately, including the number of nights, meal plan, transport basis and park fees.

What is not included

International flights, visas, insurance, gratuities, premium activities and any services not listed.

Items not clearly shown as included should be treated as additional costs until we clarify them in writing.

The total depends on travel dates, number of guests, accommodation availability, vehicle arrangement, park charges and any requested flights or add-ons. We do not publish an invented fixed price for an itinerary with variable costs.
