Your six-day safari itinerary, explained
This is a suggested six-day route, not a guarantee of any animal sighting or an unchangeable flight schedule. Capable Africa Tours confirms overnight properties, the departure point, park entries and any air sectors when preparing your quotation. Here is how the time is actually used:
Day 1 — Arusha to Tarangire
Begin from Arusha and spend the day among baobabs, elephant habitats and the Tarangire River landscape. The economical approach is to sleep near Mto wa Mbu or Karatu instead of returning to Arusha and paying for the same road twice. We explain whether your overnight is a private room or camping tent before booking.
Overnight: Mto wa Mbu or Karatu value stay.
Travel and timing: About 2–3 hours before park entry.
Day 2 — Overland to Serengeti
Leave early for the Ngorongoro highlands and the onward drive to central Serengeti. The day includes a substantial transfer; your guide may make wildlife stops when conditions permit. A campsite or simple tented camp can keep the package affordable, but it must be named or described in the quote so expectations are clear.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camping or value tented camp.
Travel and timing: Long highland-and-park road journey.
Day 3 — One full Serengeti day
A full day in Serengeti is worth protecting. Your guide searches practical areas around the camp for resident wildlife, with picnic meals where that is part of the package. We would rather use the time here than promise a drive to a distant migration river on a tight budget.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camping or value camp.
Travel and timing: Game drives with no inter-park transfer.
Day 4 — Return to the Karatu area
Have a morning wildlife drive while progressing back toward the highlands. Expect a long drive and bring water, sun protection and a warm layer. Arriving in Karatu gives a comfortable base for the crater and reduces the chance of a late-night transfer after park formalities.
Overnight: Karatu budget lodge or campsite.
Travel and timing: Several hours on the road.
Day 5 — Ngorongoro Crater
The crater has its own conservation and vehicle-related fees, so this is not a place to omit charges from the advertised budget. Enter early, enjoy a well-paced drive and return to your value accommodation. Wildlife opportunities include buffalo, zebra and lions; rhino is never assured.
Overnight: Karatu or Mto wa Mbu value stay.
Travel and timing: Crater drive and return to the overnight location.
Day 6 — Lake Manyara and Arusha
Spend the final morning in Lake Manyara National Park, where forest, lake-edge and woodland habitats contrast with Serengeti. Drive back to Arusha later in the day. If budget or time is tight, we can price an alternative with a slower morning and no extra park entry rather than quietly remove Manyara after booking.
Overnight: Tour ends in Arusha.
Travel and timing: Final park outing and road return.
Where saving money makes sense—and where it does not
A good-value safari can use simple accommodation while preserving park time. It should not depend on hidden exclusions, an overcrowded vehicle or questionable travel distances. For Ngorongoro in particular, ask whether all conservation and crater-related fees applicable to your visit have been included in the quote.
The budget question is also about nights. Three nights inside Serengeti may not be affordable for everyone. This sample reduces the stay there and adds nearer parks; if your dream is two full days with Serengeti cats, we can show what it costs to drop Lake Manyara and use that time instead.
What travelers should ask before booking
What is the cheapest accommodation option?
Public camping is often less costly than lodges, but bathroom facilities, bedding, tents and crew support vary. Ask for the exact category and facilities rather than relying on the word “budget”.
Does budget mean park fees are excluded?
Not necessarily. A proper quote must say which park and conservation fees are included, especially Ngorongoro charges. We do not want guests asked for unexpected cash at a gate.
Can solo travelers join a shared departure?
Sometimes. Shared departures depend on available seats, confirmed dates and room-sharing arrangements. We will provide the real departure basis before you pay.
What makes the quotation accurate

Questions before you travel
Can I use this route at any time of year?
The route is possible in different seasons, but wildlife distribution, road access and available accommodation vary. We confirm the order of parks and overnight areas against your month of travel.
Can I finish in Zanzibar or at an airport instead of Arusha?
Usually a different endpoint is possible, but it can involve a separate domestic flight or a longer transfer. Capable will price it transparently and check the real connection before confirmation.
