Your 8-day safari itinerary
The arrival night is part of the eight days; it is not a surprise cost left outside the plan. From Arusha, you move through Tarangire and Lake Manyara to the Serengeti, then finish with Ngorongoro. Your Day 8 flight time affects whether a same-day airport transfer is sensible.
Day 1 — Land at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Your Capable representative meets your confirmed flight at JRO after immigration and baggage collection. Most guests transfer to Arusha for the night rather than start a long wildlife drive tired. If you arrive very early, we can discuss a different schedule, but it must be agreed before you travel.

Practical note: The exact flight number and arrival time determine whether a first-day activity is realistic.
Please send the flight number rather than only your expected arrival hour. If your journey has been long, you can have dinner and rest; we would not plan a late-night transfer into a wildlife park.
Day 2 — Arusha to Tarangire
After breakfast meet the safari driver-guide and head to Tarangire. Baobabs and elephants are often the main attraction, with giraffes, antelopes and many birds as further possibilities. Picnic and evening lodge arrangements are coordinated with the confirmed park-entry time.

Your guide will collect you from the named Arusha hotel. If you want a very early start, we can discuss breakfast arrangements the evening before.
Day 3 — Manyara Forest, Then Karatu
Travel to Lake Manyara for forest habitats and Rift Valley scenery, then continue to Karatu. The park is rewarding for primates and birds even when headline animals are elusive. The afternoon transfer positions you for a sensible journey through Ngorongoro the next morning.

Practical note: Lake levels and conditions change the viewing experience.
This day is lighter than the highland transfer that follows. A lodge in Karatu makes tomorrow's journey more straightforward.
Day 4 — Across the Highlands to Serengeti
Leave Karatu early and cross the highlands towards Central Serengeti. This is one of the longest road days and includes entrance and transit procedures. Reach your camp by evening, leaving the first full Serengeti drive for tomorrow.

Practical note: Ask for the camp’s actual location before confirming.
The drive to Serengeti is substantial. We make the gate requirements and likely stops clear, then plan the camp arrival before dark where practical.
Day 5 — Full Serengeti Day
Search the plains, rocky kopjes and river habitats with time to watch animal behaviour. The guide adapts the drive to road conditions and recent sightings without guaranteeing particular species. A picnic arrangement keeps the day flexible.
Where you stay: Same Serengeti camp.
Practical note: No off-road wildlife chase should be expected.
Allow time to watch wildlife behaviour rather than moving on as soon as you take a photograph. The guide knows the permitted tracks and can explain what you are seeing.
Day 6 — Second Serengeti Wildlife Day
Use another full day to explore a different Serengeti sector or return to a promising location. Camp location, the time of year and your priorities determine the most sensible route. If an optional balloon safari interests you, mention it before booking.

Practical note: A migration-focused seasonal camp is an alternative, not a guaranteed crossing.
A second full day gives you flexibility if the weather changes. It also means you are not relying on a single short afternoon to experience Serengeti.
Day 7 — Serengeti to the Highlands
Travel back from Serengeti via the conservation area and reach Karatu for the final night. Game viewing on the way is a bonus; most of the schedule belongs to a long transfer. The evening is a good moment to review tomorrow’s crater timing and onward flight.
Where you stay: Karatu lodge.
Practical note: Return-driving time can grow with weather and road conditions.
You head back toward Karatu for the night. The value of this stop becomes clear on Day 8 when the crater opens early.
Day 8 — Crater Safari and Agreed Drop-off
Set off early for Ngorongoro Crater, enjoy the regulated wildlife drive and picnic, then continue towards Arusha or JRO if the flight timing allows. The crater is excellent for wildlife but rhino remains uncertain. A late or next-day international departure is much more comfortable than a tight connection.
Where you stay: Trip ends at agreed drop-off point.
Practical note: If your international flight is too early, we revise the route or add a separate overnight.

Flight numbers and scheduled landing time are more useful than saying that you arrive in the morning. A realistic first night includes baggage collection, immigration, road time and a margin for delays.
International versus domestic airports
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is not Arusha Airport (ARK). A short flight to Serengeti might depart from a different airport, so the transfer between airports must be included when used.
The return flight decision
The final crater drive can finish later than expected. If your international departure is early, we can adjust the order or schedule a pre-departure Arusha night rather than risk the connection.

Ask us to state where the first hotel is located, whether dinner is included after a late arrival, and how breakfast fits the next day's departure. At the other end, a flight at midday and a flight late at night create very different final-day plans. We will advise whether you need a further Arusha or airport-area night.
