Your 8-day safari itinerary
You begin in Arusha and finish in Arusha. The longest drive takes you through the Ngorongoro highlands to Serengeti, where you then stay long enough to explore rather than turn around immediately. Read the final day carefully if you have a flight to catch.
Day 1 — Arusha to Tarangire
Meet your Capable Africa Tours driver-guide at your Arusha hotel and travel towards Tarangire after breakfast. The river habitat and baobab country make a fine first wildlife day, particularly for elephants, but don’t expect every species on a checklist to appear at once. Stop for lunch inside or near the park according to your entry time.

Practical note: A pre-safari hotel night is useful when your international flight arrives late.
If your lodge is far outside Arusha, the morning pickup may need to be earlier. We confirm the hotel address and give you time for breakfast rather than assuming everyone starts in the town centre.
Day 2 — Lake Manyara to Karatu
Move to Lake Manyara for groundwater forest, primates and birdwatching beside the escarpment. The lake edge changes with season, so flamingos or tree-climbing lions should never be promised. Travel on to Karatu before evening so the next highland journey has an early start.

Practical note: Tarangire and Manyara order can be swapped if lodge location or opening hours make it sensible.
Manyara is not only about its famous lions. You can enjoy the forest and birds even if the lake edge is quiet; a night in Karatu then saves unnecessary backtracking.
Day 3 — Drive through Ngorongoro Highlands to Serengeti
Leave Karatu early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and continue towards the central Serengeti. This is a proper travel day, often around five to seven hours or longer with stops and formalities. Wildlife may be visible near the end of the journey, but the priority is reaching the selected camp in daylight.

Practical note: This is a transit through the conservation area, not today’s crater-floor safari.
This is the point where the road journey feels longest. Keep cameras and water accessible, but do not judge the experience by the number of animals spotted before camp check-in.
Day 4 — Central Serengeti Wildlife Drive
Spend a full day exploring the Seronera region, where river courses, kopjes and open grassland offer different wildlife opportunities. The guide can spend time watching natural behaviour rather than rushing between distant radio reports. Return to the same camp for dinner and an easier morning start tomorrow.

Practical note: Leopards, lions and cheetahs remain unpredictable sightings.
Staying in the Seronera area allows a varied circuit around rivers and kopjes. Let your guide know if someone needs a midday break rather than leaving that decision until everybody is tired.
Day 5 — Another Serengeti Game-drive Day
Keep the second full day for a different circuit or for patient time with animals already found. Photographers may choose an earlier departure, while families may prefer a midday rest, depending on camp location. Your guide adapts to permitted roads, conditions and your interests.

Practical note: Changing regions adds driving and requires advance camp arrangements.

Day 6 — Serengeti Focus and Seasonal Choice
The extra Serengeti day lets the itinerary breathe. Some guests will explore an additional central circuit; others might stay near a seasonally useful region if that has been planned from the start. Day 7 — Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Highlands
After breakfast make the long road journey from Serengeti towards the Karatu highlands. You may see wildlife on the way out, but allow enough daylight for road conditions and conservation-area procedures. Rest at the lodge and prepare for an early crater descent.

Practical note: A night near the crater helps avoid an exhausting start to Day 8.
This is a transfer day across the highlands. An overnight closer to Ngorongoro makes the early start tomorrow much less stressful.
Day 8 — Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
Depart early, descend to the crater floor for a wildlife drive and picnic, and then begin the transfer towards Arusha. Buffalo, hippo and large herbivores are possible, and a black rhino sighting would be a highlight rather than an entitlement. It is a long final day and arrival at Arusha can be late.
Where you stay: Trip ends in Arusha; an extra hotel night can be arranged.
Practical note: Avoid booking an early or tight international flight this evening.
The crater descent plus drive to Arusha makes for a full day. We will not recommend a close flight connection without reviewing its check-in deadline.
Arusha pickup and first-day planning
Hotel pickups are easier to coordinate when your address and breakfast time are known. We confirm whether a vehicle can reach the door and arrange a nearby meeting point if necessary. Arrival through JRO is usually best followed by a night in Arusha before this eight-day schedule.
