Quick answer: Yes. A flight connects Zanzibar to Arusha, Kilimanjaro or a Serengeti airstrip depending on availability. A seven-day safari is long enough to build a proper Northern Circuit road itinerary, but the air connection and overnight route must be planned together.
Many visitors spend a few nights at the beach before deciding they do not want to leave Tanzania without visiting Serengeti or Ngorongoro. The main planning issue is not which park sounds best; it is how to connect the island airport with the park circuit without losing most of a day to repeated transfers.

This is a workable planning example. Exact lodge locations, operating hours, transfers and weather determine the confirmed daily schedule; we will send you the final route before booking.
Day 1 — Zanzibar hotel pickup, mainland flight and Arusha night
We collect you from the agreed Zanzibar hotel when transfer is included and take you to the airport for the confirmed flight to Arusha or Kilimanjaro. Flight departures may change and can involve intermediate stops. Once on the mainland, meet the transfer driver and settle at a hotel. This first day is for getting positioned comfortably; we do not promise a full national-park game drive after a late arrival.
Day 2 — Arusha to Tarangire
Leave the Arusha hotel after breakfast for Tarangire. Spend the available day driving through its woodland and river habitats, where elephants, giraffes and other animals may be found. Because the morning starts on the mainland, there is more time for wildlife than if we tried to squeeze in an uncertain connecting flight. Overnight near Tarangire or Manyara.
Day 3 — Tarangire area to Serengeti via Ngorongoro
Travel toward Serengeti via the Ngorongoro highlands. This is one of the longer road days, with conservation-area procedures and road conditions affecting arrival. After entering Serengeti you can view wildlife on the way to your selected camp. We place the camp to reduce unnecessary game-drive transfers over the next days.
Day 4 — Full day in Serengeti
Set out early for a full day observing the park’s wildlife. Stay longer at a lion sighting when appropriate, or use the time to look for grazing herds in open plains. If the Great Migration is your interest, the exact region must be chosen around your dates, not a generic crossing promise. Picnic lunch or a camp break depends on your confirmed plan.
Day 5 — Second Serengeti day
A second full day gives your guide a chance to revisit useful areas or explore another reachable sector. The plan should not require a long camp move unless it adds genuine wildlife value. If you have children or want a more relaxed holiday, this is a good day to ask for a shorter morning and evening outing.
Day 6 — Serengeti to Ngorongoro / Karatu
Begin the return journey through the conservation area. The morning drive is partly a transfer; you will not have another full Serengeti day. Pause at permitted viewpoints if timing allows. Overnight near Ngorongoro or Karatu in preparation for an early crater descent.
Day 7 — Ngorongoro Crater and final Arusha connection
Descend to the crater floor early for wildlife viewing, subject to park rules. After the crater visit, drive to Arusha. A same-day flight to Zanzibar may be possible only if departure time provides a safe margin, and we do not assume one in advance. The safer alternative can be an Arusha overnight and an additional travel day outside this seven-day sample.

Domestic Flight Baggage Is Not the Same as International Baggage
Small safari aircraft may limit baggage by total weight, type and size. Soft-sided luggage is often preferred. The exact rule comes from the airline operating your flight, so please do not buy a large hard suitcase on the assumption it can travel on every domestic sector.
Tell us if you carry heavy camera equipment, sports gear or medication that needs special handling. We check the booked airline’s allowance before tickets are issued. Flights may stop at other airstrips even when they are sold as Zanzibar-to-Serengeti services.
Where Should You Stay in Zanzibar Before the Flight?
A hotel in Nungwi, Kendwa or another northern beach area is not next to Zanzibar airport. Early departures may require a very early pickup. The same applies to some east-coast beaches. Please send the actual hotel name, not simply “Zanzibar,” so we can set a practical pickup time.

Return Flight: Avoid a Same-Day Race
A crater visit, lunch, road transfer to Arusha and airport check-in can consume a full day. Booking a late-evening domestic or international flight on the assumption that all roads will run on time is risky. We prefer to compare the available flight schedule first.

What Drives the Total Cost?
Return flights, luggage, the type of mainland safari vehicle, named camp locations and park fees are the main costs to compare. A direct Serengeti air transfer can look expensive on its own, yet it may save a long return road transfer and a hotel night. The useful comparison is the total itinerary, not only the flight fare.
International airfare to Tanzania is separate unless the written quotation explicitly includes it. The same applies to your Zanzibar beach accommodation before or after the safari.
