JRO is not the same as Arusha Airport. It serves many international arrivals, while Arusha is an important starting base for northern safari roads and domestic flights. This distinction matters when you choose flights, hotels and pickup times.
The itinerary below counts your arrival and hotel transfer as Day 1. That protects the rest of your week from an unrealistic early game-drive promise. Guests who arrive a day before the safari can request a slightly different seven-day plan with more park time.

Your Seven-Day Itinerary
This is a workable planning example. Exact lodge locations, operating hours, transfers and weather determine the confirmed daily schedule; we will send you the final route before booking.
Day 1 — Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Your guide or airport transfer driver meets you in the arrivals area using the name or identification provided before travel. Allow for immigration, baggage collection and possible delays. Transfer to your Arusha hotel, check in and rest. If your flight arrives very early, we can discuss a local activity, but no full national-park game drive is assumed. Overnight in Arusha.
Day 2 — Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, meet your safari driver-guide and depart for Tarangire. The road journey takes part of the morning, but there should be useful game-drive time once you enter the park. Look for elephants, giraffes, antelope and birds among baobabs and river habitats. Take a picnic lunch or lodge meal as agreed. Overnight near Tarangire or the Manyara area.
Day 3 — Tarangire area through the highlands to Serengeti
Leave after breakfast and travel via the Ngorongoro highlands into Serengeti. Expect a longer transfer with park entry and conservation-area procedures. There can be wildlife viewing toward the end of the day, but this is not a full Serengeti day. Reach your booked camp in time for dinner and rest.
Day 4 — Serengeti: full wildlife day
Spend the full day exploring the Serengeti area near your camp. Start early when practical, take a picnic lunch if arranged, and listen to your guide’s advice about local wildlife movements. Resident lions, elephants, giraffes and many other species are possible, but nothing is guaranteed. The benefit of this day is time to stop, watch and enjoy rather than constantly driving toward the next hotel.
Day 5 — Second Serengeti wildlife day
A second full day improves the pace. You may cover another reachable habitat, revisit an interesting sighting or follow seasonal game where practical. The Great Migration can change location with rainfall; the route and camp should be chosen around your month. After the afternoon drive, return for your last Serengeti night.
Day 6 — Serengeti to Ngorongoro highlands
After a measured drive through the Serengeti toward the exit, continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The road and stopovers use much of the day. If the timing allows, pause at an approved viewpoint, then continue to your lodge near the crater or Karatu. Rest before the early start tomorrow.
Day 7 — Ngorongoro Crater and final transfer
Descend to Ngorongoro Crater for a morning wildlife drive under the park’s operating conditions. Animals might include lions, buffalo, hippos and, with luck, black rhino. After lunch and the return road journey, finish in Arusha or another agreed location. A same-day transfer to JRO is possible only if the international flight timing provides a reasonable buffer; otherwise an extra hotel night is better.
Where Is Kilimanjaro International Airport?
JRO sits between Moshi and Arusha rather than inside either town. The right overnight base depends on where the safari goes next. Arusha is generally the easier road departure for Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Serengeti circuit. Moshi can be useful if a Kilimanjaro climb is part of the same trip.

Why We Usually Start the Parks on Day 2

If you arrive one day early and want the full seven days in the parks, ask for a pre-safari hotel night outside the seven-day package. We can explain the additional charge rather than hiding an eighth day inside the price.

For a substantial delay that affects the following day, the safest choice may be to revise the opening program. We would rather show a realistic itinerary than insist on a drive that begins when everyone is exhausted.
Returning to JRO After Ngorongoro
The crater drive and road back toward Arusha already make a long day. Continuing to JRO may be possible, but the international flight must be late enough to allow sensible travel and airport check-in time. We do not advertise fixed transfer times because conditions can change.
If you plan to fly home immediately after the safari, send the ticket details before we confirm the crater day. You may prefer to reverse the park order, include a flight from Serengeti or add a final hotel night.
