Can a Tanzania Safari Really Start in Moshi?
Moshi is a natural starting point for guests finishing the Machame, Marangu or other Kilimanjaro routes. Many already have a room, luggage storage and a meeting point in town. We build the safari from that practical starting position rather than suggesting you pay for an unnecessary hotel change.
This sample route covers Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. It is intended for travelers who are comfortable with some long road days and who want the Serengeti to receive more than a rushed drive-through. If your group prefers fewer transfers, we can reduce the number of parks.

A Practical Seven-Day Itinerary
This is a planning example, not a promise that every day runs to the same clock. Your lodge locations, park-entry arrangements, weather and the confirmed route determine the final schedule.
Day 1 — Moshi to Tarangire National Park
Meet your guide at your Moshi accommodation and leave in the morning. The drive goes toward Arusha and then south-west into Tarangire country. Once at the park, look for elephants among the baobabs and spend time along accessible woodland and river habitats. Picnic lunch and an afternoon game drive are planned around arrival time. Sleep near Tarangire or in the Manyara/Karatu area, depending on the lodge confirmed.
Day 2 — Lake Manyara and the Karatu highlands
Continue to Lake Manyara for forest, lake-edge and open-country wildlife, then travel toward Karatu for the night. Lake levels and road access affect which part of the park you can reach. If your group wants more Tarangire time or dislikes changing parks too often, this day can be reallocated without changing the seven-day total.
Day 3 — Karatu through the Ngorongoro highlands to Serengeti
After breakfast, pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on the route toward Serengeti. You may stop at approved viewpoints, but remember this is partly a transit day. Enter the Serengeti with time for game viewing on the way to camp. Your accommodation should be positioned to reduce the next morning’s commute to the wildlife area.
Day 4 — Full day in Central Serengeti
Leave camp early with breakfast or a packed meal as agreed. The guide can focus on kopjes, riverine woodland and open grassland according to current sightings. Rather than racing to every report, stay longer when animal behavior is interesting. A full day means you can choose between a picnic in the bush and a mid-day camp break.
Day 5 — Another Serengeti wildlife day
A second full Serengeti day is what separates this from a very short circuit. Revisit a promising cat territory, concentrate on birds, or move toward a different sector if seasonal wildlife patterns justify it. We do not promise a river crossing or particular predator sighting. Return to the camp for the final Serengeti night.
Day 6 — Serengeti to the Ngorongoro area
Use the morning for a final, sensible game drive as you leave Serengeti and travel toward the highlands. Depending on the route and overnight property, the day can include a crater-rim viewpoint before you settle in near Ngorongoro or Karatu. This is not a second full Serengeti day; the road transfer must be allowed for.
Day 7 — Ngorongoro Crater safari and return toward Moshi
Enter the crater early for a wildlife drive on the crater floor, subject to gate and operating rules. Lions, buffalo and elephant may be seen; black rhino is possible but never assured. After the visit, climb out and begin the long journey toward Moshi. Plan a late arrival, or ask for an Arusha finish or a separate final transfer if your flight timing makes a Moshi return impractical.
What Changes When You Start After Kilimanjaro
A mountain descent day is tiring. Even strong trekkers appreciate a shower, a proper sleep and time to sort gear before setting off in a safari vehicle. If you finish your climb in the afternoon, we recommend keeping that evening in Moshi and making the next morning the first safari day.
Mountain duffel bags, walking poles and boots can be left at an agreed hotel or safely managed through your travel arrangements. Tell us if everyone is continuing directly to Zanzibar afterwards so we do not plan unnecessary transport back to Moshi.

For a seven-day road safari, lodge location matters as much as the room category. A camp close to your Serengeti game-drive area can save significant backtracking, while an attractive property far outside a gate can make days longer than they need to be. We confirm named options and the room type in the quotation.
Many travelers choose comfortable mid-range lodges for this route, but tented camps and premium options are possible. We will not label a trip “luxury” unless the actual accommodation and services support that description.

- Tell us whether you will return to Moshi, stay in Arusha, or continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

- For an onward international flight, avoid relying on a tight connection after the crater and the long road return.
How Much Does a Seven-Day Safari from Moshi Cost?
The price is not a single fixed daily rate. It changes with group size, season, park and conservation fees, whether the 4×4 is private, the exact camps, and whether the safari ends back in Moshi. Starting from Moshi may add transport compared with an otherwise identical Arusha route.

Usually yes. At least one comfortable night in Moshi after descending makes the next week easier, particularly for guests with tired knees or limited sleep.
Can you pick us up at Kilimanjaro International Airport?
Yes, depending on arrival time and the route agreed. Late arrivals are better followed by an Arusha or Moshi hotel night.
Will we get back to Moshi early on Day 7?
Do not plan on an early return after a proper crater visit and the drive back. The final travel time depends on gate operations, road conditions and stops.

Can we fly from Serengeti to Zanzibar instead?
Often possible when there is a suitable scheduled connection. That would change the planned route and cost, so we would quote it as an adjusted itinerary.
