What to know about this safari before booking
If Serengeti is the main reason you are coming to Tanzania and you have only four days, this is a focused, fast-moving option. You drive from Arusha into Serengeti, stay two nights, then head to the Ngorongoro area for a crater visit before returning. Capable Africa Tours can arrange the private vehicle, guide and accommodation, but we will not disguise the long travel distances involved.

Your 4-day safari itinerary
There is only one full day in Serengeti because the first and third days include long drives. We explain that before you book. Guests who prefer a slower pace should consider adding a night or asking about flight-based alternatives, subject to route availability.
Day 1 — Arusha to Central Serengeti
Depart Arusha very early for the long road journey across Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Serengeti. With road travel, gate checks and lunch stops, this can take roughly six to eight hours or longer, so the first day is not advertised as a full game-drive day. Wildlife may be seen on the approach before you check in.
Where you stay: Central Serengeti mid-range tented camp.
Practical note: If you prefer to avoid long transfers, ask about a one-way flight.
An early breakfast and departure are important. We will plan lunch and rest stops because most of this day is on the road, not in the Serengeti wildlife area.
Day 2 — A Full Serengeti Safari Day
This is your main Serengeti wildlife day. Look for lions around kopjes, grazers on the plains, and birds or elephants near river habitats with your private guide. A picnic lunch offers flexibility. Stay at the same camp rather than moving accommodation for no reason.

Practical note: Migration location changes by month; a river crossing is not a reserved event.
This is the day to let the guide follow a productive wildlife circuit and stay with an interesting sighting. The experience is more satisfying than spending the day chasing distant reports.
Day 3 — Morning Wildlife and Drive to Karatu
Take a reasonable early drive on the way out of Serengeti, then cross the highlands towards Karatu. The transfer requires a substantial part of the day and needs to finish before dark where possible. Dinner and a good night’s sleep are worthwhile before the crater descent.

Practical note: The morning drive is subject to your exit and transit timing.
The early part of the day can include wildlife on the way out. The rest is highland travel, so reaching your Karatu accommodation before dark is a practical goal.
Day 4 — Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha Return
Leave early for Ngorongoro Crater, spend the allowed wildlife-viewing period inside and have a picnic before driving to Arusha. Buffalo, hippo, plains animals and possibly rhino provide a different ecosystem from Serengeti. It is a long final day and a tight same-evening international flight is not recommended.
Where you stay: Trip ends in Arusha.
Practical note: The base itinerary uses Arusha pickup and drop-off; additional transfers need quoting.
A black rhino would be a wonderful bonus, not a promise. Please tell us if you must catch a flight, because this is not a short transfer day.
Why two Serengeti nights matter
Without a full middle day, the drive from Arusha would leave you with limited wildlife time. Two nights allow one useful full Serengeti day before beginning the return.
Where to sleep before the crater
Karatu is a practical place for the third night. From there, leaving early for the crater is easier than attempting a long transfer from Central Serengeti on the same morning.
When a fly-in is worth considering
A one-way flight can save road time and may be attractive for families or travelers with limited holidays, but flight price, seat availability and baggage restrictions need a separate confirmation.
Your accommodation and the details we confirm with you
Two consecutive nights at the same Serengeti property protect your time in the park. We will check the camp location carefully; a cheaper room far from the game-viewing area can cost you valuable hours. A Karatu or highland lodge on the third night makes the crater visit possible the next morning.

Is the drive back to Arusha after the crater long?
Yes, Day 4 includes the crater visit plus a road return. A flight immediately afterwards needs careful scheduling and may require a separate overnight.
