What you are booking
A private safari means the vehicle and guide are arranged for your party rather than shared with strangers. That changes the day: you can wait at a leopard sighting, break for a tired child, or ask your guide to spend more time with elephants. It does not mean the roads become shorter or that every lodge can change at the last minute. Day-by-day itinerary: five days and four nights
This is our practical planning route. Capable Africa Tours confirms your accommodation, pickup time, transport arrangements and park sequence for your actual dates; it is not a fixed wildlife-sighting promise.
Day 1 — Arusha to Tarangire on your schedule
We agree a comfortable pickup time before you travel. Enter Tarangire with your own driver-guide and spend time where the sightings are interesting—perhaps a family of elephants, a baobab-lined track or birds along the river. A private safari gives you the freedom to ask questions and make reasonable stops. It does not require constant driving simply to cover distance.
Overnight / finish: Your first night is in the Tarangire–Karatu area, at a property selected for the comfort and budget of your group.
Day 2 — Travel toward Serengeti
Depart in good time because the drive through the Ngorongoro highlands is long. You can stop for photographs and breaks, but we plan arrival in Central Serengeti before the day is lost. On the final stretch, the vehicle becomes your game-viewing base as your guide heads toward camp.
Overnight / finish: First Serengeti night; we choose the camp with your preferred comfort level and route in mind.
Day 3 — Full Serengeti day with your own guide
This day is yours within park rules. If the morning is productive, stay longer; if you are traveling with children, return to camp for lunch and go out again later. Photographers may prefer fewer sightings and longer observation. Your guide can discuss options every morning rather than following a rigid shared-group timetable.
Overnight / finish: Second Serengeti night, usually without changing properties.
Day 4 — Gentle morning, transfer to crater highlands
Enjoy a morning wildlife drive close to camp and then begin the return across the plains toward Ngorongoro. The drive remains substantial, so private flexibility means choosing sensible stops rather than staying out until sunset and arriving exhausted. Once at your highlands hotel, discuss how early you want to start for the crater.
Overnight / finish: Overnight near Karatu or Ngorongoro highlands.
Day 5 — Ngorongoro and back to Arusha
An early start gives you more useful time on the crater floor. The guide will follow authorized tracks through different habitats, with opportunities for buffalo, elephant, lion and other animals. Ask to stop for photography or a picnic where permitted. After the crater visit, return to your agreed drop-off; do not schedule a tight outgoing flight.
Overnight / finish: Tour ends at the agreed Arusha point, or another location quoted in advance.
What can you genuinely customize?
Departure time, breaks, wildlife focus and your preferred accommodation are all things we can discuss. Park closing times, permit conditions, road distances and the booked hotel’s policies still apply. We prefer to explain those boundaries in advance.
Is private the same as luxury?
No. A private safari may use comfortable budget lodges, mid-range tented camps or very high-end properties. The important distinction is your own vehicle and guide. The room category determines much of the price, and we will make both parts clear on the quote.
Families and older travelers
Tell us who is traveling, including the ages of children and whether anyone prefers shorter days or needs an easier vehicle step. Sometimes a route with no Serengeti road transfer is better; we will suggest it when your comfort matters more than adding another park.

How much time will be spent driving?
A safari day on the Northern Circuit is not the same as a short city transfer. From Arusha to Tarangire, travelers commonly allow roughly two to three hours before park activities, depending on the starting hotel, road conditions and stops. Reaching Central Serengeti by road from the Karatu/highlands area takes a substantial part of a day. The crater visit and onward return also require most of the final day.
These are planning indications, not promised transfer times. For a Zanzibar fly-in or a Kilimanjaro Airport arrival, flight schedules and check-in time matter just as much as the road journey. Accommodation and prices: what changes the quote?
A five-day safari price changes with the season, the number of guests sharing a vehicle, private versus shared guiding, the locations and standards of overnight stays, park fees, and any domestic flight segments. A cheaper camp far from the next morning’s wildlife area can cost you valuable time, so we compare the whole route rather than the nightly room rate alone.
We provide an itemized quote based on your dates, passenger count and preferred accommodation. Any published “from” price is an indication, not a confirmed amount for every traveler. Park fees and flight schedules can change, so ask for the current figures before transferring money.
Questions travelers ask before booking
Will another group join our vehicle?
No. A confirmed private booking gives your listed party its own safari vehicle and guide.
Can we leave camp later some mornings?
Yes when the route and park rules allow it. On long transfer days, an early start is often still wise.
Can we upgrade only the Serengeti nights?
Usually we can quote a mixed-standard itinerary, subject to availability and location.
Can the trip start in Moshi or Zanzibar?
