Day-by-day itinerary: five days and four nights

Day 1 — Tarangire, then settle into a lodge
Meet your guide in Arusha and drive to Tarangire for elephants, wooded river habitats and the impressive baobab landscape. After several hours of wildlife viewing, continue to your booked lodge. You can enjoy dinner and relax in a permanent room rather than setting up camp. The exact room facilities depend on the property selected.
Overnight / finish: First night in Tarangire area or Karatu, with the named property and room basis shown on the itinerary.
Day 2 — Road transfer to Serengeti
Travel across the Ngorongoro highlands into Serengeti. This is a long drive; we include suitable breaks and wildlife viewing as the route allows. Once at the lodge or tented lodge, you can rest, shower and have dinner. We will not choose a distant property simply because it looks cheaper if the extra transfer would undermine the trip.
Overnight / finish: Serengeti night one at the confirmed lodge or tented lodge.
Day 3 — Full Serengeti game viewing
A second night in the same lodge means you can enjoy the park without moving your luggage. Start with an early drive and discuss lunch with your guide. Some travelers prefer a picnic and a longer day out; others value a mid-day rest. That choice is easier when the lodge is well located.
Overnight / finish: Serengeti night two, with the same room category and meal plan as booked.
Day 4 — Into the Ngorongoro highlands
Spend a little time viewing wildlife before the return road transfer. The highlands become cooler in the evening, so bring a light jacket. Check-in gives you time for a proper dinner and sleep ahead of the crater visit. If the lodge is in Karatu, the guide will explain the morning approach to the conservation area.
Overnight / finish: Karatu or crater-highlands lodge, confirmed for your selected dates.
Day 5 — Crater visit and return
Leave early for Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy the final game drive. Its varied habitats may reveal large mammals and waterbirds, but no particular animal can be guaranteed. After the visit, return to Arusha at a realistic pace. A later flight or an additional hotel night may be preferable to trying to rush from the crater to check-in.

Lodge or tented lodge—what is the difference?
A tented lodge may still have full-size beds, private bathrooms and permanent structures. A simple lodge may offer fewer services than a luxury tented camp. We will tell you about the real facilities, not let the word “tent” or “lodge” make the decision for you.
Inside the park or outside?
A Serengeti lodge inside the park may reduce driving at sunrise. Around Ngorongoro, Karatu properties offer a broad range of options but add an approach drive to the crater. Both can be sensible; we explain the location and any conservation fees before confirming the booking.
Families and different room needs
Ask about triple rooms, interconnecting rooms, cots or a room with step-free access before paying. Lodges vary, and a hotel cannot guarantee every configuration. We will verify the specific room category rather than list facilities the property may not offer.

How much time will be spent driving?
A safari day on the Northern Circuit is not the same as a short city transfer. From Arusha to Tarangire, travelers commonly allow roughly two to three hours before park activities, depending on the starting hotel, road conditions and stops. Reaching Central Serengeti by road from the Karatu/highlands area takes a substantial part of a day. The crater visit and onward return also require most of the final day.
These are planning indications, not promised transfer times. For a Zanzibar fly-in or a Kilimanjaro Airport arrival, flight schedules and check-in time matter just as much as the road journey.
