Day-by-day itinerary: five days and four nights
This is our practical planning route. Capable Africa Tours confirms your accommodation, pickup time, transport arrangements and park sequence for your actual dates; it is not a fixed wildlife-sighting promise.
Day 1 — Tarangire and your first campsite
We collect you in Arusha and drive toward Tarangire for your first game drive. Your guide will look for elephants, antelope and wildlife around the river and woodland. Later, reach the campsite in daylight so the crew can set up tents, arrange dinner and explain where the washing facilities are. The first evening is a good time to understand the routine.
Overnight / finish: First night at a named campsite in the Tarangire–Karatu area, with the actual facilities explained in advance.
Day 2 — Highlands transfer and camping in Serengeti
Travel through the Ngorongoro highlands to Serengeti. This is a long day, so we depart early and have lunch and stops at practical times. Wildlife viewing begins when conditions allow after entering the park, but much of the day is transit. Reaching the campsite with enough daylight is especially important when tents must be prepared.
Overnight / finish: Serengeti campsite; tents and meals are supplied according to your confirmed package.
Day 3 — Full Serengeti day from camp
Wake with the sounds of the campsite, have breakfast and set out with your guide. With no inter-park transfer today, the whole day can be used for game viewing. Decide whether to take a picnic lunch and remain out or return to camp for a break. After the game drive, the crew handles dinner while you rest; campsite rules and safe distance from wildlife still apply.
Overnight / finish: Second night at the Serengeti campsite, avoiding another full camp move if possible.
Day 4 — Serengeti to the crater highlands
Pack the tents after breakfast and enjoy shorter wildlife stops on the way out of Serengeti. Continue through the conservation area to the selected campsite near Karatu or the highlands. Expect cooler conditions at this altitude and pack a warm layer for the evening. We plan the transfer so the team can prepare camp before it is dark.
Overnight / finish: Fourth night at a confirmed campsite, with the bathroom and shower arrangements specified.
Day 5 — Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha
Start early for Ngorongoro Crater, bringing the day pack and warm layer you prepared the evening before. Descend for a game drive across varied crater habitats, then have a picnic at a permitted location. After the visit, head back to Arusha. Arriving later in the day is normal and should be factored into onward travel.
Overnight / finish: The camping tour ends at the agreed drop-off; extra accommodation is not implied.

Food, water and toilets

Safety at camp
Wildlife areas require care after dark. Remain in designated camp areas, follow guide and campsite instructions, and do not store snacks inside a tent if told otherwise. You do not roam the park at night or walk to wildlife sightings without an authorized activity.

How much time will be spent driving?
A safari day on the Northern Circuit is not the same as a short city transfer. From Arusha to Tarangire, travelers commonly allow roughly two to three hours before park activities, depending on the starting hotel, road conditions and stops. Reaching Central Serengeti by road from the Karatu/highlands area takes a substantial part of a day. The crater visit and onward return also require most of the final day.
These are planning indications, not promised transfer times. For a Zanzibar fly-in or a Kilimanjaro Airport arrival, flight schedules and check-in time matter just as much as the road journey. A five-day safari price changes with the season, the number of guests sharing a vehicle, private versus shared guiding, the locations and standards of overnight stays, park fees, and any domestic flight segments. A cheaper camp far from the next morning’s wildlife area can cost you valuable time, so we compare the whole route rather than the nightly room rate alone.
We provide an itemized quote based on your dates, passenger count and preferred accommodation. Any published “from” price is an indication, not a confirmed amount for every traveler. Park fees and flight schedules can change, so ask for the current figures before transferring money.
