Day-by-day itinerary: five days and four nights
This is our practical planning route. Capable Africa Tours confirms your accommodation, pickup time, transport arrangements and park sequence for your actual dates; it is not a fixed wildlife-sighting promise.
Day 1 — Arusha to the appropriate Serengeti sector
Start from Arusha with your guide and travel toward the selected Serengeti region. For a Central Serengeti road itinerary this is a significant transfer day; the farther northern areas may be impractical to reach the same way in five days. We will confirm whether the plan is by road, air or a combination before booking. Depending on arrival, you may enjoy wildlife viewing on the way to camp.
Overnight / finish: First night at a confirmed camp in the chosen seasonal area.
Day 2 — Explore the migration habitat
With no major transfer planned, spend the day exploring habitats that may support migrating wildebeest and zebra at this time of year. Movement depends on rain and grazing. In calving months the southern plains or Ndutu area may be relevant; in other periods the concentration can be elsewhere. Your guide adapts the drive based on conditions and park permissions.
Overnight / finish: Second night in the Serengeti region, at the same base if practical.
Day 3 — Another full day with the herds and predators
A second full day allows you to stay in one region and watch for herds, predator behavior and the wider ecosystem. A river crossing is possible only in suitable northern or western areas at certain times and is not something a guide can make happen. We would rather give you time with the wildlife that is present than waste the day racing after unverified reports.
Overnight / finish: Third night in or near the selected Serengeti sector, where the travel plan permits.
Day 4 — Return toward Ngorongoro highlands
Take a final morning drive if the route allows, then begin the transfer to Ngorongoro. If you were based in a remote northern area, a flight or an extra day may be necessary; we do not compress a long drive into an unrealistic afternoon. On the Central Serengeti version, head back through the conservation area to Karatu or the highlands.
Overnight / finish: Fourth night in Karatu or Ngorongoro highlands, with the camp-to-lodge journey confirmed.
Day 5 — Ngorongoro Crater and return to Arusha
Descend into the crater for a game drive among grassland, forest and wetland habitats. The crater offers a very different wildlife landscape from the open Serengeti, and black rhino sightings remain possible but uncertain. After the visit, return to Arusha as agreed. We do not recommend a tight international departure on this long final day.
Overnight / finish: Tour ends at the confirmed Arusha location or another quoted transfer point.
What “migration season” actually means
Wildebeest movement follows rainfall and grass. Ndutu and the southern ecosystem are often relevant around December–March, western sectors are often discussed around May–June, and the north around roughly July–October. Those are planning patterns, not calendars the animals are obliged to follow. We will review the region when you send your month.
North Serengeti in five days: ask us about the flight
Kogatende and the northern plains are a long way from Arusha by road. If your priority is the Mara River, we would compare a fly-in stay or recommend more time rather than selling a central road itinerary as a northern crossing safari.
Price, conservation fees and camps
The live page has a published from-price based on Arusha departure, but seasonal camps, transfer modes and group size can change the total significantly. A written quote must name accommodation, park fees, flights where relevant, meals and cancellation terms. No migration event is a paid guaranteed attraction.

How much time will be spent driving?
A safari day on the Northern Circuit is not the same as a short city transfer. From Arusha to Tarangire, travelers commonly allow roughly two to three hours before park activities, depending on the starting hotel, road conditions and stops. Reaching Central Serengeti by road from the Karatu/highlands area takes a substantial part of a day. The crater visit and onward return also require most of the final day.
These are planning indications, not promised transfer times. For a Zanzibar fly-in or a Kilimanjaro Airport arrival, flight schedules and check-in time matter just as much as the road journey. There is no single best month. Different Serengeti regions become more relevant at different times; tell us whether calving, large herds or river crossings interest you most.
Are river crossings guaranteed?
No. Even during relevant months, herds may not cross while you are present.

Often in the southern season, subject to camp and conservation arrangements. The full route should be checked for your dates.
Is Northern Serengeti realistic as a five-day road trip?
