Is this six-day safari right for you?
Six days is enough for a focused wildlife photography itinerary with two full Serengeti days and Ngorongoro Crater. It is better to protect early and late viewing time than to add Lake Manyara to an already long driving loop.

Your six-day safari itinerary, explained
This is a suggested six-day route, not a guarantee of any animal sighting or an unchangeable flight schedule. Capable Africa Tours confirms overnight properties, the departure point, park entries and any air sectors when preparing your quotation. Here is how the time is actually used:
Day 1 — Tarangire for elephants and scenery
Leave Arusha toward Tarangire, where elephant groups, baobabs and changing light make varied subjects. Your guide can look for safe places to position the vehicle rather than crowd animals. We choose a lodge near the westbound route so tomorrow’s drive does not undo the early start.
Overnight: Karatu / Mto wa Mbu lodge.
Travel and timing: About 2–3 hours to the park, then photography time.
Day 2 — Journey to central Serengeti
The road through the highlands is lengthy, so arrive knowing this is partly a transfer day. Use the final hours for open-plains images if timing and conditions permit. A camp near your intended Serengeti photography areas is more important than a distant lodge chosen for its brochure alone.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camp.
Travel and timing: Long road transfer with occasional images along the way.
Day 3 — Early light in Serengeti
Start before the stronger midday light, with a packed breakfast or meal plan if agreed with camp. Spend time following natural behavior from permitted roads without blocking other vehicles. Midday can be a useful break for battery charging and reviewing images, followed by another outing later in the day.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camp.
Travel and timing: Full photography day with early/late sessions.
Day 4 — Second Serengeti field day
This day provides a second chance at conditions you cannot schedule: cloud cover, animal movement and predator activity. Discuss lens lengths, how much dust protection you need, and whether you would rather hold position or move to another habitat. We never guarantee a kill, a migration crossing or a particular cat.
Overnight: Central Serengeti camp.
Travel and timing: Full field day without a lodge change.
Day 5 — Return via the Ngorongoro highlands
Take any final wildlife opportunity while leaving Serengeti, then continue to Karatu. This is a travel day, so it should not be sold as a complete photography session. The highlands may offer landscapes and people-at-work scenes only where taking photos is welcome and permitted.
Overnight: Karatu lodge.
Travel and timing: Substantial drive through the conservation area.
Day 6 — Crater landscapes and return
The crater gives opportunities to frame wildlife within a remarkable volcanic landscape. The guide balances viewing needs with crater road rules and the return journey to Arusha. Early light can help, but the departure time still has to allow for the drive home.
Overnight: End in Arusha.
Travel and timing: Crater drive and return road transfer.
Planning for cameras, light and vehicle space
Please tell us how many people will be photographing and whether anyone is carrying long lenses or tripods. A roof opening is useful, but photographers also need space to turn safely and keep equipment away from dust. We can propose a lower vehicle occupancy, a cost decision that should be clear before you book.
Photographers often prefer a morning drive, a pause for lunch and another outing when the light softens. That may not always be possible with a far-away lodge. For this reason the camp’s location can be more important than its room category, especially when Serengeti is the main destination.
What travelers should ask before booking
Will every photographer have a window?
Tell us the number of photographers and the size of your camera gear. Capable can propose an occupancy limit for the private 4×4, which will affect price.
Can we use drones?
Do not assume so. Protected areas have strict rules and permits; we will not present drone flying as an included activity.
How do we charge camera batteries?
Ask for camp and vehicle charging facilities in writing. Bring adapters and backup batteries, as power may be limited at remote tented camps.
What makes the quotation accurate
A dedicated photography vehicle with fewer occupants can cost more per person. We itemize guide, vehicle, lodge, park fees and any special equipment or flight arrangements.
Tell Capable Africa Tours your dates, group size, children’s ages if relevant, preferred comfort level and start/end locations. We will identify the accommodation category and confirm the transfer route rather than quote a low number that quietly assumes unavailable rooms or missing flights. If you have fixed international departures, we will check whether your final safari day leaves a safe connection.
Your final itinerary is coordinated by our Tanzania team: the confirmed vehicle, guide, lodges or camps, park activities, planned meals, and agreed transfers are combined into one written proposal. You will receive the actual services and their conditions before paying a deposit.

Questions before you travel
Can I use this route at any time of year?
The route is possible in different seasons, but wildlife distribution, road access and available accommodation vary. We confirm the order of parks and overnight areas against your month of travel.
Can I finish in Zanzibar or at an airport instead of Arusha?
Usually a different endpoint is possible, but it can involve a separate domestic flight or a longer transfer. Capable will price it transparently and check the real connection before confirmation.
Ask Capable Africa Tours to put your trip together
You do not need to decide every lodge and transfer before contacting us. Share the dates, number of people and what matters most to you. We will reply with a route, accommodation basis and itemized inclusions you can evaluate. If a day has too much driving for your group, tell us; it is better to revise the plan before booking than to discover the problem on safari.
