Your six-day safari itinerary, explained
This is a suggested six-day route, not a guarantee of any animal sighting or an unchangeable flight schedule. Capable Africa Tours confirms overnight properties, the departure point, park entries and any air sectors when preparing your quotation. Here is how the time is actually used:
Day 1 — Moshi to Tarangire
Your guide meets you in Moshi early so that the drive across the Arusha area does not swallow the whole day. Tarangire is well known for elephants and baobab country, particularly along the river system. Expect a later park arrival than guests leaving Arusha. We choose an overnight near Mto wa Mbu or Karatu rather than driving back east.
Overnight: Mto wa Mbu or Karatu lodge.
Travel and timing: Allow roughly 3½–5 hours toward Tarangire, plus stops.
Day 2 — Travel through the highlands to Serengeti
The next stage climbs through the Ngorongoro highlands and continues toward Serengeti. There may be chances to stop for scenery and an en-route wildlife drive, but you should not expect the same hours in the park as on a full Serengeti day. Once you arrive, settle into a camp in a practical location for the following morning.
Overnight: Central Serengeti tented camp.
Travel and timing: A substantial road day; exact duration depends on the overnight point and park procedures.
Day 3 — Full Serengeti game drive
The guide explores plains, riverine woodland and kopjes around the camp’s region. Depending on animal movement you may see giraffe, zebra, wildebeest or predators, but wildlife is never guaranteed. Discuss whether you prefer a long picnic drive or morning and afternoon outings before leaving camp.
Overnight: Central Serengeti tented camp.
Travel and timing: Full day dedicated to game viewing.
Day 4 — Serengeti at a slower pace
Use the second full day to revisit habitats you found rewarding or try a different route. Early starts can help with cooler temperatures and animal activity. You are not paying for a hurried checklist: remaining near a sighting can be more memorable than driving several kilometres between reports.

Travel and timing: No long transfer; game-drive hours depend on park rules and your guide.
Day 5 — Serengeti to the Ngorongoro highlands
Begin the return drive with some game viewing on the way out of Serengeti. The afternoon is best used for the crossing toward Karatu or another suitable highland base. You will be grateful for a warm meal and an early night before the crater, especially if your safari followed a mountain climb.
Overnight: Karatu / Ngorongoro highlands lodge.
Travel and timing: A travel-focused day with occasional wildlife stops.
Day 6 — Crater safari and final transfer
An early crater entry offers time among grasslands, wetlands and the forest edge. After the crater drive, continue toward Arusha; the onward journey to Moshi takes additional time and may reach your hotel late. If your flight is from Kilimanjaro Airport, tell us the departure time before the itinerary is agreed so that the return is not rushed.
Overnight: End in Arusha, Moshi or JRO as confirmed.
Travel and timing: Crater outing followed by several hours of road travel; no tight flight connections.
What changes when the journey begins in Moshi
Moshi is an excellent base for Kilimanjaro, but it adds road time on a Northern Circuit safari. Capable will request your hotel location because a pickup from the town center and a pickup from a lodge outside town do not create identical departure times. The route still works well when we leave early and continue west rather than returning through Moshi after Tarangire.
After a mountain climb, tired legs and altitude recovery can be as important as a safari wish list. If you want a slower first day, tell us before the itinerary is issued. We can discuss spending the first night in Arusha or near Karatu and adjusting park time instead of forcing a very early start.
What travelers should ask before booking
Can we begin the morning after coming down Kilimanjaro?
Yes, if you feel well, but many climbers appreciate a proper rest night. Tell us your descent date and whether you are carrying extra mountain luggage.
Is Moshi pickup included?
Capable can include the pickup and required transfer in the itinerary. The quote must state whether the tour ends in Moshi, Arusha or at JRO because those are different journeys.
Will we lose a Serengeti day by starting in Moshi?
The first day includes more driving than an Arusha start, but a well-planned route can protect the full Serengeti days. A late-start departure from Moshi would reduce time in Tarangire.

Questions before you travel
Can I use this route at any time of year?
The route is possible in different seasons, but wildlife distribution, road access and available accommodation vary. We confirm the order of parks and overnight areas against your month of travel.
Can I finish in Zanzibar or at an airport instead of Arusha?
Usually a different endpoint is possible, but it can involve a separate domestic flight or a longer transfer. Capable will price it transparently and check the real connection before confirmation.
