Your six-day safari itinerary, explained
This is a suggested six-day route, not a guarantee of any animal sighting or an unchangeable flight schedule. Capable Africa Tours confirms overnight properties, the departure point, park entries and any air sectors when preparing your quotation. Here is how the time is actually used:
Day 1 — Zanzibar to the Serengeti by air
If a suitable scheduled or charter flight is available, fly from Zanzibar to the confirmed Serengeti airstrip. Your driver-guide meets you there and takes you on an introductory drive toward camp. Exact airstrip and region are chosen with the season and flight schedule, not guessed in advance. If no suitable direct connection operates, we revise the routing through Arusha.
Overnight: Serengeti tented camp.
Travel and timing: Flight plus airstrip transfer; usable game-drive hours depend on arrival.
Day 2 — First full Serengeti day
With no airport transfer today, the guide can explore the plains, kopjes and watercourses of your camp’s region. You might encounter lions, antelope, elephants or giraffes; what you see changes daily. A picnic lunch is useful if you wish to stay out for extended viewing rather than return to camp in the middle of the day.
Overnight: Serengeti tented camp.
Travel and timing: Full wildlife day.
Day 3 — A different Serengeti habitat
Use a second full day for a different route within practical reach of the camp. This is especially important if you are traveling for photography or to see seasonal wildlife. A river crossing or other migration event cannot be promised. We avoid a distant regional transfer that would consume most of your day unless it is the actual reason for choosing the trip.
Overnight: Serengeti tented camp.
Travel and timing: Full wildlife day without a cross-country move.
Day 4 — Drive toward the Ngorongoro highlands
Leave the Serengeti with en-route viewing and work back toward Karatu or the Ngorongoro highlands. This is a significant road journey; it is deliberately separated from the crater descent. Check into a comfortable lodge and prepare for an early start the following morning.
Overnight: Karatu / Ngorongoro highlands lodge.
Travel and timing: Long driving section from central Serengeti.
Day 5 — Ngorongoro Crater
Descend after breakfast for game viewing among grasslands, marsh areas and forest. Rhino may be seen but never guaranteed. Returning to a lodge around Karatu after the crater makes the day more pleasant than trying to catch an uncertain island flight directly after the descent.
Overnight: Karatu lodge.
Travel and timing: Crater safari and a short onward lodge transfer.
Day 6 — Return to Zanzibar
Your driver transfers you toward the appropriate airport, usually Arusha or Kilimanjaro depending on the confirmed flight. Fly back to Zanzibar and continue to your beach hotel if that transfer is included. The exact flight connection and road timing will be checked before we sell the final itinerary; a different air route may change the park sequence.
Overnight: End in Zanzibar or other confirmed destination.
Travel and timing: Mainly transfer and flight day, not another full game drive.
How to avoid losing a day to island connections
Flights from Zanzibar operate according to timetables that may change, and not every Serengeti airstrip is served the same way. Before quoting, we need to know whether you want to begin at your beach hotel or meet us at Zanzibar Airport. Hotel-to-airport transfers, check-in requirements and light-aircraft baggage limits all affect the real start time.
This sample keeps the final day for returning to Zanzibar. It is a conscious choice: it avoids a desperate crater-to-airport dash. If you want to spend the final night in the Serengeti instead, ask for a fly-out version. That can be excellent, but it changes the park order, camp location and price.
What travelers should ask before booking
Are flights from Zanzibar included in the safari price?
We list each flight sector in the written quotation. Some travelers book their own flights; others ask Capable to include them. An image of an aircraft on a safari page does not mean tickets are included.
What happens if there is no direct flight to our Serengeti airstrip?
We can explore a connection through Arusha or adjust the first night. Never assume the same airstrip serves every Serengeti region or operates every day.
Can we go back to Zanzibar immediately after the crater?
That depends on road distance and available flights; it is not built into this six-day example. Day 6 is protected for the island return.
What makes the quotation accurate
Domestic flights, baggage restrictions, airstrip transfers and Zanzibar hotel transfers can materially change the package total. The quote must name the flights and the exact start and end services.

We will identify the accommodation category and confirm the transfer route rather than quote a low number that quietly assumes unavailable rooms or missing flights. If you have fixed international departures, we will check whether your final safari day leaves a safe connection.
Your final itinerary is coordinated by our Tanzania team: the confirmed vehicle, guide, lodges or camps, park activities, planned meals, and agreed transfers are combined into one written proposal. You will receive the actual services and their conditions before paying a deposit.

Questions before you travel
Can I use this route at any time of year?
The route is possible in different seasons, but wildlife distribution, road access and available accommodation vary. We confirm the order of parks and overnight areas against your month of travel.
Can I finish in Zanzibar or at an airport instead of Arusha?
Usually a different endpoint is possible, but it can involve a separate domestic flight or a longer transfer. Capable will price it transparently and check the real connection before confirmation.
