Your 4-day safari itinerary
The schedule is deliberately not a rushed Serengeti circuit. You spend the first three days in contrasting northern habitats and leave time to return to Arusha on the fourth. If Serengeti is your main dream, ask for a different route rather than expecting it to be squeezed into this one.
Day 1 — Arusha to Tarangire
Leave your Arusha hotel after breakfast and drive to Tarangire. The elephant herds, baobabs and river woodland make a strong first day; stop for a relaxed picnic rather than adding another park before dusk. Return to a lodge positioned for the next morning’s drive.

Practical note: A same-day international arrival should not automatically be counted as this full park day.

Day 2 — Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley
Head to Lake Manyara for its forest, primate life and bird habitat. Wildlife sightings vary with season, and the famous tree-climbing lions are not guaranteed. Continue to Karatu in the afternoon and enjoy a quieter evening before Ngorongoro.

Practical note: A family can shorten this drive and spend more time at the lodge if preferred.
A forest-and-lake day feels different from Tarangire's open woodland. We can arrange a lunch stop that keeps the afternoon journey to Karatu comfortable.
Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater
Start early from Karatu, enter Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a guided wildlife drive and picnic. Look for buffalo, zebra, hippo and possible predators across the crater's different habitats. Return to Karatu after following the permitted crater time limits.

Practical note: Crater vehicle charges and entry fees are separate items that must appear in the final quote.
The crater is a full wildlife experience even if you see no rhino. The descent and return are governed by park regulations, so the lodge location matters.
Day 4 — A Flexible Return to Arusha
Enjoy a slower morning and drive back to Arusha, with a cultural, coffee or local craft stop only if you would like one and timing permits. Why we do not force Serengeti into every four-day plan
Serengeti is magnificent, but a road trip from Arusha consumes a large part of two of the four days. Travelers who value relaxed wildlife viewing may get more from nearby parks. A short Serengeti trip is still possible; it is simply a different choice with longer driving.
The best place to sleep
A night near Tarangire followed by two nights around Karatu keeps driving more sensible than returning to Arusha every evening. We recommend specific properties after the group size and budget are known.
How much flexibility is available?
Private safaris let you adjust game-drive timing within park rules and reduce unnecessary stops. Shared departures, if available, follow a more fixed itinerary.
