Moshi is a convenient starting point if you are visiting Kilimanjaro or staying near the mountain, but it sits farther from the northern safari parks than Arusha. This four-day route respects that distance. Your 4-day safari itinerary
The first morning involves more driving than many brochure descriptions suggest. Once you reach Tarangire, there is still time for wildlife viewing, but we do not treat the transfer itself as a game drive. After that, overnight stops near Karatu make the later park visits easier.
Day 1 — Moshi Pickup and Tarangire
Meet the guide at your Moshi hotel for an early departure. The road through Arusha to Tarangire is longer than from an Arusha hotel, so the safari begins with a transfer before the first game drive. Once inside the park, enjoy elephants, baobabs and the changing woodland scenery before moving to the lodge.
Where you stay: Tarangire area or Karatu lodge.
Practical note: After a Kilimanjaro climb, a separate recovery night in Moshi is strongly recommended.
Please be ready for the road journey before the safari begins. We can advise on a practical breakfast and departure time from your particular Moshi accommodation.
Day 2 — Lake Manyara and Karatu
Travel to Lake Manyara for birds, baboons and groundwater forest, followed by an afternoon at your Karatu accommodation. There is room to rest and enjoy a local meal rather than pretending this has to be a second high-mileage day. If your main priority is elephants, we can exchange Manyara for extra Tarangire time.

Practical note: Discuss the park order before confirmation; it is not fixed for every group.
You can slow the pace in Manyara and enjoy its forest and birds. If everyone is tired, we would rather reach Karatu in good time than add an unnecessary late stop.
Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater Wildlife Drive
Depart early for Ngorongoro, descend to the crater floor and enjoy your wildlife drive within the permitted operating window. A picnic gives you time among grasslands and wet areas where buffalo, hippos and sometimes rhinos may be seen. Return to Karatu rather than making a tiring cross-region night drive.
Where you stay: Karatu lodge.
Practical note: Black rhinos are wild animals, and a sighting cannot be guaranteed.
Pack a warm layer for the crater rim and ask the guide about the planned lunch stop. Sightings are varied but not guaranteed.
Day 4 — Return from Karatu to Moshi
After breakfast drive back through the Northern Circuit corridor to Moshi, with time for rest stops and Arusha traffic. Your guide drops you at the agreed hotel or airport transfer point. Guests with early international flights should consider a night near JRO rather than trying to combine a rushed departure and a long transfer.

Practical note: Optional evening activities and post-safari hotel nights are not included unless quoted.
The return to Moshi may take several hours depending on traffic. Do not schedule a tight flight connection without checking the transfer window first.
After Kilimanjaro: should you depart the next morning?
An immediate transfer may feel difficult after several mountain days. We suggest a recovery night for most climbers, especially when a trek finished late or the group has experienced altitude-related fatigue.
Why fewer parks can be better
Tarangire and the crater are different environments, while Manyara adds forest and birds. This program gets you to these places without losing two days to long Serengeti transit; a longer trip is better if Serengeti is essential.

Arusha or JRO might suit your next flight better. We provide alternative return quotations and agree the destination before you confirm the itinerary.
